Title I

Title 1 is a federally funded program that provides extra academic support and learning opportunities for students who are struggling to master state and local academic standards. The newest authorization of Title 1 is part of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) that was signed into law on January 8, 2002. NCLB emphasizes the importance of teacher quality, student achievement and parental involvement; additionally, NCLB stresses that schools must be accountable to students and parents in the areas of teacher quality, student achievement and parental involvement.

Title 1 funds are federal supplemental funds that provide additional instructional time and support to identified students. GCSC elementary schools provide additional instructional programming in the area of literacy. Title 1 programs at each of our elementary schools are supported by scientific and/or evidence-based research.
